Maria Furtado, 40, shot the dog dead in an apparent revenge attack after it killed two of her ducklings
Accused: Maria Furtado is being held in jail
A mother is accused of taking her two children with her to abduct and kill a neighbour's puppy, police said.
Maria Furtado, 40, shot the dog dead in an apparent revenge attack after it killed two of her ducklings, KSNV News3LV reported.
Furtado, from Pahrump, Nevada, faces two counts of neglects and child abuse; one count of animal cruelty; and one count of larceny, Nye County Sheriff’s Office said.
Police say Furtado pulled up to her neighbour's home on Sunday, walked onto their property, took the puppy from its rope and put it into her car.
She then drove to the desert near Front Sight with her sons, aged three and 15.
When she reached the desert, she took the puppy out of the car and shot it repeatedly.
Furtado then made her teenage son shoot the puppy a number of times, police say.
She is currently being held at Nye County Detention Center on $25,000 bond.
She is due in court again August 19th.
